best-selling author and world-renowned financial expert Suze Orman makes her children’s book debut in this story of a one-dollar bill named Billy and a penny named Penny.

When Billy and Penny realize that the family they live with are overlooking their true worth, they decide to make their presence count by going missing. When the pizza man arrives, the mother enlists the help of her two children and their piggy bank in order to pay for dinner. When Billy and Penny make their return, the family show their appreciation for the money that saved the day. Orman and wife and illustrator Kathy Travis team up for a classic and family-friendly tale of counting every penny and making every penny count.

My 6-year-old actually asks to read this one at bedtime, which never happens with his other books. Making a dollar bill and a penny into characters named Billy and Penny is such a clever way to start a money conversation without it feeling like a lesson.

The way a one-dollar bill and a penny explain saving and spending actually clicked for my six-year-old, who now points at coins and asks which one is Penny. The illustrations are bright enough to hold his attention through the whole book, which is rare for him.

My daughter really got into Billy and Penny's adventure, and it's sparked some good questions about saving. I just wish the financial concepts were explained a bit simpler for her age.
